WHO WE ARE

We are Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons—specialists in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the face, mouth, jaws, and neck.

Across Ontario, our members provide advanced care in:

  • Oral and facial trauma
  • Dental implants and bone grafting
  • Wisdom tooth management
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders
  • Oral pathology and oral cancer
  • Corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery
  • Cleft and craniofacial surgery
  • Obstructive sleep apnea

Our training is hospital-based and includes expertise in anesthesia, allowing us to safely deliver procedures ranging from routine care to complex surgery.

Since our incorporation in 2014, OSOMS has continued to grow—supporting our members, advocating for our specialty, and improving access to high-quality surgical care for patients across Ontario.

OUR GOALS

To pursue and act in the best interests of the membership and their patients, by, for example:

    • Enhancing the scope of practice of oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Ontario.

    • Enhancing access to oral and maxillofacial surgeons by all Ontarians, in all regions and communities of Ontario.

    • Pursuing initiatives that facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment of patients by oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

    • Encouraging and facilitating the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in Ontario.

    • Supporting and assisting educational programs and residencies for oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

    • Pursuing collaboration and multidisciplinary care with other professions and with other health professional and industry associations.

    • Maintaining the best possible working relationships with the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health and other provincial ministries and agencies involved in healthcare delivery, policy and funding.

    • Supporting continuing education programs for oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

    • Collaborating with provincial and national organizations representing dentists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
