The simple answer is that if the nature of the procedure or the patient' health status requires that the procedure be conducted in a hospital, the procedure is covered by OHIP. Most Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Ontario have hospital privileges.
If the procedure is conducted in an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon's clinic, rather than in a hospital, it is not eligible for OHIP coverage and must be paid for by the patient, or by the patient's extended health benefits insurer.
Because of the paperwork involved and the low fees, some Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons do not provide services that are covered by ODSP. Check with the "Find A Surgeon" portal on this website to identify those OSOMS members who provide ODSP-funded services.
Most of the treatments provided to WSIB claimants are provided by Ontario's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. The WSIB maintains a list of those Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who are formally registered with the WSIB. Otherwise, check with the "Find A Surgeon" Portal on this website to identify OSOMS members who provide services to WSIB claimants, or ask the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon's Clinic.
